Smash Offered a Welcomed Break for Maryville College Students
We've all been there. Between finals, papers and projects throughout the year, students may find their stress levels a little higher than usual.
Add a year of lockdowns and virtual learning to the mix and this year quickly became one of the more challenging ones for many. Thankfully there was a hard working team on the Student Programing Board at Maryville College ready to brainstorm creative ways to help their students get their minds off the stress and take a little breather.
One activity that Maryville College incorporated into their activities schedule for the Spring was Smash Mobile Rage Room. They rented Smash for a fun afternoon activity for students to stop by and enjoy.
After months of cancelled events, Smash was a welcomed change for students.
Students were able to take a quick break in their day and take a moment to write down the weight of their stressors and smash them into oblivion for a few moments of cathartic release. Alex, the Themed Communities Coordinator at Maryville College said that Smash was not only a fun activity for students to enjoy; even faculty joined in on the fun.
“Students had a wonderful time! There are a lot of students that are struggling to find a safe way out of their dorm due to COVID-19, and this event gave them something to be apart of with other students safely. We had enough plates to let faculty get involved, and I think some of the faculty members got more out of it than the students.”
And while everyone has different ways of coping with the stress of a long year, Smash gave students an opportunity to release a little tension, take a break and have a few laughs while they’re at it.
“SMASH was GREAT! Our students have struggled to find safe activities to engage in during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and SMASH gave them the opportunity to release all of their anger and frustration stemming from an immensely hard year. ”
Thanks for having us Maryville College, we can’t wait to be back on campus for future semesters.
